Greening the Meeting

Gathering individuals for an event like the Texas Plastic Pollution Symposium can have notable environmental consequences. Recognizing our role as professionals in the field, the TPPS Planning Committee is dedicated to setting a sustainable precedent. Here are the initiatives we have implemented to minimize the environmental impact of the TPPS 2026:

  1. Reusable Meeting Materials
    • Utilizing reusable bags for meeting materials
    • Introducing reusable nametags
  2. Paper Conservation
    • Minimizing paper usage through duplex printing whenever feasible
  3. Recycled Materials
    • Incorporating materials with high recycled content whenever possible
  4. Digital Accessibility
    • Providing electronic copies of meeting materials to registered participants
  5. Local Support
    • Prioritizing local vendors for event services
  6. Paperless Program
    • Embracing sustainability, we are forgoing traditional paper programs for TPPS 2026
    • The program will be available online before the meeting
    • QR codes linked to the program will be posted around the event for easy digital access
  7. Merchandise & Catering
    • Reduction of single-use plastics and sourced products with limited non-recyclable materials from outside vendors via our hosts. This will save wildlife by reducing single-use plastics in Galveston’s habitats and ecosystems.
  8. Your Part
    • Bring your reusable water bottle and coffee mug to reduce single use plastic
    • Put your waste in the correct bins for compost or recycling
